Day 37 — Cathedral Grove Bokeh

Photo:

Cathedral Grove is located in MacMillan Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. The grove is noted for the accessibility to Douglas Fir trees — some 800 years old and up to 9 metres in circumference.  A regime of very high contrast as, where the sun does shine through, it is brilliant compared to the rest of the park that is in deep shade.  There are certainly good photos out there of the understory — photos that exhibit the intense and diverse greens.  Also, I didn’t take one of them on this visit!

But, the sun also allows some flowering plants and I captured this image.  Lots of bokeh in the background.

Day 35 – West Coast

Photo:

I am way, way behind in posting so will be back-dating a number of posts.  Finding “photo a day” is challenging from a number of perspectives — first the time to take the photos (easier) and then the time to sort through them, select and publish.

This was taken on the drive north from Sooke to Port Renfrew on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Day 32 — Here Comes the Night

Photo:

I was preparing for a trip today and didn’t pull out the camera all day.  As I was going to bed, I attached the gorillapod to the camera and took a shot of the family room lilt mostly with moon light.

The red light at the bottom of the TV is the ‘off’ light; the green light in the centre of the TV is from the camera, I think.

Plenty of noise is this extended exposure.

Day 31 — Durum

Photo:

Our usually shaggy dog needed a complete shave to facilitate surgery. At age 11, he was not happy about this at all.

A very shallow depth of field which emphasizes the face. Processed using the aged photo preset in Lightroom 2.

Day 28 — Colours

For: Apr. 3

Photo: The softness of a lensbaby with a macro on the front is, I think, magical for this.   I suppose it might have been improved if the white flowers in the centre were sharper but I don’t know that …  I haven’t seen that image!  So, I enjoy what comes from this experiment.
